GC-MS testing for Khan before title defence?

May 14 2010

WBA light-welterweight champion Amir Khan could be set to provide samples for gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) analysis after stating he is willing to be tested ahead of his title defence on Saturday (May 14th).

The Bolton boxer is set to fight Paulie Malignaggi, with the American fighter previously admitting it had crossed his mind that Khan was taking performance-enhancing drugs, the BBC reports.

"I'm not scared of needles, if you want me to take a drug test, I'm happy to do that for you," said Khan.

It comes after Manny Pacquiao refused to take random blood and urine tests leading up to his superfight with Floyd Mayweather.

Malignaggi questioned Pacquiao's reluctance to surrender himself to scrutiny, but fell short of accusing the Filipino's team-mate Khan of doping.

World Anti-Doping Agency president John Fahey recently urged boxing promoters and organisers to maintain the integrity of the sport by working closely with his institution in the future.
