When managing equipment in a shared resource facility, it is important to know when your instruments are in use and to define who is allowed to use them. Instrument access control capabilities enable facilities to manage access through both hardware and software mechanisms. With this added layer of security, labs can define when and by whom instruments are used. Further, instrument access control systems that connect directly to shared resource management applications, provide additional benefits, such as, real-time usage tracking and direct usage billing and reporting opportunities.

In this webinar, we will present the two different ways you can leverage instrument access control capabilities, one using a network-enabled hardware interlock device and the other through a software interlock mechanism. We will also address the benefits of leveraging a shared resource management system with your interlock device.

Key Learning Objectives

  • The benefits of Instrument Access Management for both core facility staff and its customers.
  • Demonstration of both Hardware and Software Interlock capabilities.
  • Benefits of usage tracking and flexibility and how to manage charges for late or missed appointments.
  • LIVE question and answer session at the end of the presentation.

Vincenzo Di Bernardo

Vincenzo Di Bernardo currently lives in London, UK with wife and daughter. During his years at Harvard University’s Center for Nanoscale Systems he developed a web-based lab management systems that controlled instruments via web relays. Because his experience in the field, he started consulting with iLab in 2014 on the kiosk and interlock project. In 2015 he moved to the UK and started working with iLab full-time in Engineering first and more recently in EU Business Development and Sales. Vincenzo is still occasionally assisting colleagues and customers in implementing iLab’s usage tracking solutions and always enjoys a good technical challenge. When not at his computer or visiting clients, you can find him walking the banks of the Thames with Stella, his loyal and sweet German Shepard.
