New reversed phase chromatography method developed

May 10 2011

A new method of reversed phase chromatography has been developed to determine ebastine in its pharmaceutical preparations.

Published in the Chemistry Central Journal, the study saw a team of scientists explore a new approach to the analysis of abastine in its dosage forms.

It saw the development of a simple, sensitive and selective reversed phase liquid chromatographic method which not only has been used for the determination of ebastine at a flow rate of 1 ml/min but also produced content uniformity in the testing of the studied pharmaceutical formulations.

"The composition of the complex as well as its stability constant was also investigated. Moreover, the proposed method was found to be a stability indicating one and was utilised to investigate the kinetics of alkaline and ultraviolet induced degradation of the drug," those behind the study explained to the Journal.

A team of scientists also calculated the first-order rate constant and half life of the degradation products.
