Lab blood testing confirmed for Mayweather-Mosley fight

The US Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) has announced it will be conducting blood tests both before and after the upcoming boxing match between Floyd Mayweather Jr and Shane Mosley.

Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry may be used in the analysis, with USADA head Travis Tygart claiming only the best labs and "the most advanced techniques and methods" will be utilised.

"There are adequate sanctions to deter tempted cheaters and also to punish those who will trample the rights of other competitors by cheating," he added.

It will be the first time that random blood testing will be performed in this manner in boxing, Richard Schaefer - chief executive officer of Golden Boy Promotions - said.

Both fighters will have urine and blood samples taken at random times before and after the bout, he added, with Mayweather being a driving force in its introduction.

A proposed superfight between Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao fell through recently when the latter refused to similar conditions going into the contest.
