Chiral Technologies launches new tech for HPLC
Nov 08 2012
Chiral Technologies has introduced a new technology for separating free amino acids in high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC).
The Chiralpak Zwix(+) and Chiralpak Zwix(-) immobilised zwitterionic chiral stationary phases were developed specifically to help separate underivatised amino acids and peptides.
The zwitterionic supports are not restricted by the position of amino acids, meaning that they can be used to effectively separate alpha, beta and gamma amino acids.
These Zwix phases can also be used for the separation of any compounds made up of molecules that can react both as acids and bases.
Professor Wolfgang Lindner, of the University of Vienna, was responsible for developing the zwitterionic ion exchangers. His efforts built on the foundation of a commercial platform for Chiralpak QD-AX and QN-AX anion exchange columns, a technology exclusive to Chiral Technologies.
The global leader in enantioselective chromatography first unveiled the two immobilised chiral stationary phases this summer, explaining that they can be used in supercritical fluid chromatography.
Both of the Zwix chiral selectors are synthesized by bonding alkaloids with trans-2-aminocyclohxanesulfonic acid using carbamate linking and are chemically bonded onto three-micrometer silica.
Chiral Technologies Worldwide provides pharmaceuticals and life science companies with a large portfolio of chiral stationary phases, which are fundamental to the process of chiral column chromatography.
The chiral stationary phases are prepared by attaching a suitable chiral compound to an achiral support, in this case silica gel. Various stationary phrases are required because each is suited to a specific type of analytes.
As well as creating these stationary phases, Chiral Technologies also specialises in providing analytical method development and custom separation services, serving markets in Europe, North America, Latin America and Asia.
Earlier this year, the company launched a new website proteinchiralcolumns.com dedicated to its immobilised protein stationary phases, including Chiralpak AGP, HAS and CBH, its protein stationary phases which are applicable in a wide degree of separation scenarios.
